anyone a good idea how to reach server trough ssh on android ?

I have NetIO running, works perfectly to control my house / heating, thanks guys. All is done by a small linux server that receives the NetIO commands and sends the desired action to various Ethersex / FHEM units.

Now i want to be able to do this also from abroad, with UMTS connection or other WLANs.
At the moment, i use ConnectBot, establish a tunnel to my home server, load a different config-File to NetIO ( with a different port “localhost”)
But this is not very comfortable, and, most important, i can´t explain that to my wife.
Of course i could simply open the used port to the Internet, but due to security reasons that´s not really what i want.
Anyone has a good idea how to solve this ?
Best would be an automatic solution because it makes no sense to control evreything from home via the Internet tunnel because of high latency time ?

Best regards

Klaus

Hi Klaus,
one idea would be to always use the tunnel and configure a local route that forwards the ssh connection directly back into the local network, so that the connection never leaves the local network. Some routers can be configured this way.

Another secure approach is using a VPN network. Then the app always connects to the boards ip address. If you are not in the local network, the phone must be connected to the VPN which makes the IP-addresses available.
There are routers which make creating a vpn pretty easy.

anyone a good idea how to reach server trough ssh on android ?

Hello David,

Idea 2 is nearly what i have at the moment, for this i always have to switch VPN on ( I´m using ssh tunnel, but nearly the same)

But idea 1 is really good, i have a Fritzbox, anyone has any experience with that ?

Of course, 99 % of time i´ll use NetIO in-house, but i want to be able to use it abroad (and be able to show it everybode :-) ) without to have change settings, open vpn and such things

Regards

Klaus

I think this kind of configuration is not possible with the browser interface.

I guess you need to connect with telnet (if this is not possible dial #96*7* to activate telnet access). And then use the ‘route’ command to add such a rule..

Or you enter a DNS entry in the fritzbox which maps the dyndns address to the local board ip. The fritzbox needs to be the first dns server then.

Maybe you need to ask this question in a fritzbox forum to get more details.
